Golden Match Report welcomes considered pitches about the customs, records, roles and language surrounding matches. We are interested in clear ideas that can serve readers beyond a single news cycle.
What makes a strong pitch
Start with the question your piece will answer and why a curious general reader might care. Explain the central idea, the scope of the subject and how you would make it clear without assuming specialist knowledge. We favour distinct angles, sound context and claims that can be checked; broad topics without a defined point of view are less likely to suit the publication.
Topics and approach
Pitches may explore scorekeeping, officiating, matchday customs, spectator habits or the history and meaning of competition language. We welcome explanatory features, comparisons, carefully scoped histories and essays grounded in clear reasoning. Please note any sources or expertise the proposal depends on, and distinguish personal interpretation from verifiable fact.
How to send a proposal
Send your pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a concise outline and a short note about your proposed approach. Please do not send a complete article unless we request one. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication.
The score is only one way to read a match
We look at the customs, records and language around competition, making room for details that are easy to miss when attention stays on the result.
